Private cross-chain swaps

Swap native coins across chains from a private account. THORChain settles real assets, so there is no bridge and no wrapped token, and the swap has no visible link to your wallet.

What the chain shows

A swap made from your wallet, and the same swap made with Redacted.

Without Redacted
Ether
Swapped to ZEC · thor1q9…8xkd

public
  • Your addresses on both chains, linked for good.
  • Every other transaction of both wallets.
With Redacted

Swapped privately
  • The swap still settles through THORChain.
  • It leaves from a Spending account with no visible link to your wallet.

Why it matters for swaps

A cross-chain swap from your wallet links your addresses on both chains for good. Anyone who knows one of them can follow the money to the other. With Redacted the swap leaves from a Spending account, so neither side leads back to you.

Coins you can swap

Every coin has its own page with what a public address gives away.

How a cross-chain swap works

Route
THORChain swaps the coin you pay into RUNE in its liquidity, then RUNE into the coin you get, in one continuous flow.
Speed
Most swaps finish within 5 to 20 minutes. Large swaps can be split into smaller parts over time and take around 30 minutes.
Fees
A network fee on the chain you pay from, a swap fee that depends on the size of the swap compared to the liquidity, and a network fee on the chain you receive on. The quote shows them before you confirm.

How a private swap will work

  1. 1

    Unlock your private account

Sign in with a passkey or one signature from the wallet you already use. Nothing about the account points back to that wallet.

  2. 2

    Fund it through the Reserve

New money waits about two hours before it can be used privately, which makes it harder to match a deposit to what you do next.

  3. 3

    Swap from Spending

The swap leaves from a fresh Spending account. A node carries it on-chain, so your wallet never signs it.

  4. 4

    Keep the result private

The coin you get can go straight back into the Reserve, or out to any address you choose.

Why Redacted works this way

Financial privacy, the way the cypherpunks meant it

In the early 1990s the cypherpunks argued that an open society needs people to be able to pay and trade without broadcasting their lives. Public blockchains made every balance and every trade visible by default. Redacted keeps the activity on-chain and the rules public, and takes the person out of the picture.

Open to anyone

Anyone with a wallet can use Redacted, with no sign-up and no identity check. The rules are public and the same for every user, and withdrawals are always open.

Proofs instead of trust

Your browser proves every action with a zero-knowledge proof. Nobody holds your keys or can spend your notes, and the code is open source for anyone to check.

Nodes decide

Independent nodes approve deposits after the checks they choose. New money waits about two hours, which makes a deposit harder to match to what you do next.

Private swaps, answered

Does a private swap use a bridge or wrapped tokens?+

No. THORChain swaps native coins through its own liquidity, from the coin you pay into RUNE and from RUNE into the coin you get, in one continuous flow.

How long does a cross-chain swap take?+

Most swaps finish within 5 to 20 minutes. Large swaps can be split into smaller parts over time and take around 30 minutes.

Can anyone see my swap?+

The swap settles on-chain like any THORChain swap. With Redacted it leaves from a Spending account, so it has no visible link to your wallet on either chain.
