How Redacted compares

Updated 1 October 20264 min read

Most privacy tools on public chains are either a pool you pass your coins through or a shielded wallet with a few private actions added on. Redacted is built to be the place where your DeFi life happens. You sign in with the wallet you already use, your balance holds real coins from many chains, and you trade, lend, borrow and stake on Rujira without anyone being able to connect it to your public address.

The table compares Redacted, as it works with the node network, with three well-known privacy protocols and with Houdini, a private swap service. It reflects what each one offers as of October 2026.

How Redacted compares Feature comparison of Redacted, Railgun, Privacy Pools, Umbra and Houdini as of October 2026. Private account from the wallet you already have, with no new seed phrase: Redacted yes, Railgun no, Privacy Pools no, Umbra no, Houdini no. Real BTC, ETH and other native coins in one private balance, with no bridges or wrapped tokens: Redacted yes, Railgun no, Privacy Pools no, Umbra no, Houdini no. Private swaps: Redacted yes, Railgun yes, Privacy Pools no, Umbra yes, Houdini yes. Private limit orders on an orderbook: Redacted yes, Railgun no, Privacy Pools no, Umbra no, Houdini no. Private lending and borrowing: Redacted yes, Railgun yes, Privacy Pools no, Umbra no, Houdini no. Private staking and yield: Redacted yes, Railgun yes, Privacy Pools no, Umbra no, Houdini no. Deposits checked against known hacks and sanctions lists: Redacted yes, Railgun yes, Privacy Pools yes, Umbra yes, Houdini yes. One company approves every deposit: Redacted no, Railgun no, Privacy Pools yes, Umbra yes, Houdini yes. Checks decided by an independent, bonded node network: Redacted yes, Railgun no, Privacy Pools no, Umbra no, Houdini no. Viewing keys to share your history with an auditor: Redacted yes, Railgun yes, Privacy Pools no, Umbra yes, Houdini no. Withdrawals always open, nobody can freeze your funds: Redacted yes, Railgun yes, Privacy Pools yes, Umbra yes, Houdini partly. No sign-up and no identity checks: Redacted yes, Railgun yes, Privacy Pools yes, Umbra yes, Houdini partly. Partly means that Houdini needs no account, while its exchange partners can hold a swap for a compliance review and ask for identity or source-of-funds information. Redacted Railgun Privacy Pools Umbra Houdini Private account from the wallet you already have, with no new seed phrase Real BTC, ETH and other native coins in one private balance, with no bridges or wrapped tokens Private swaps Private limit orders on an orderbook Private lending and borrowing Private staking and yield Deposits checked against known hacks and sanctions lists One company approves every deposit Checks decided by an independent, bonded node network Viewing keys to share your history with an auditor Withdrawals always open, nobody can freeze your funds No sign-up and no identity checks Partly. A few notes on the rows. Railgun brings privacy to EVM chains and supports private swaps, yield and liquidity through integrations, and it uses its own wallet with a separate recovery phrase and view-only keys. Privacy Pools focuses on private deposits and withdrawals of ETH and tokens, with a single association set provider that vets deposits and a ragequit that returns rejected deposits to their sender. Umbra is a private wallet on Solana with shielded transfers and swaps, and it adds viewing keys, risk screening and geo-blocking on top. Houdini offers private swaps across many chains without an account, and it routes each swap through two exchange partners and an intermediate coin. Each partner runs its own compliance checks and can hold a swap during a review and ask for identity or source-of-funds information, which is why Houdini's last two rows are marked as partly. With Redacted you can share your history with an auditor or an exchange through a disclosure report, which arrives in an upcoming update.

Redacted brings the best of these approaches together in one place. You get full access to DeFi on Rujira, real coins from every major chain in one private balance and checks run by independent nodes, all from the wallet you already use. New money waits about two hours, which makes it harder to link a deposit to what you do next, and your withdrawals stay open whatever happens.
