Privacy on public blockchains has a handful of serious projects. This article puts Redacted next to three well-known ones, Railgun, Privacy Pools and Umbra, as each of them works in October 2026. It is based on each project’s own documentation and public launch coverage, retrieved on 1 October 2026. Projects move fast, so if something here is out of date, flag it in the community channels and the article will be updated.

The short version

Most privacy tools are either a pool you pass your coins through or a shielded wallet with a few private actions added on. Redacted is built to be the place where your DeFi happens. You sign in with the wallet you already use, your private balance holds real coins from many chains, and you trade, lend, borrow and stake on Rujira without a visible link to your public address.

A few notes on the rows. Railgun brings privacy to EVM chains and supports private swaps, yield and liquidity through integrations, and it uses its own wallet with a separate recovery phrase and view-only keys. Privacy Pools focuses on private deposits and withdrawals of ETH and tokens, with an association set provider that vets deposits and a ragequit that returns rejected deposits to their sender. Umbra is a private wallet on Solana with shielded transfers and swaps, and it adds viewing keys, risk screening and geo-blocking on top.

Where Redacted is different

  • The wallet you already have. Your private account is derived from one signature of your existing wallet. There is no new app to install and no new seed phrase to write down.
  • Native coins in one private balance. THORChain settles real assets on their home chains, so Bitcoin, Ether and other coins sit in one private balance without bridges or wrapped tokens.
  • Full DeFi, not just transfers. Swaps, orderbook limit orders, lending, borrowing and staking on Rujira, all from the same private account.
  • Checks run by independent nodes. Deposits are approved by a bonded network of independent nodes, each choosing its own checks, and withdrawals stay open whatever happens.

Where others are ahead today

  • Disclosure tools. Railgun and Umbra already offer viewing keys. Redacted’s disclosure reports, which let you share your history with an auditor or an exchange, arrive in an upcoming update.
  • Reach beyond one home chain. Railgun spans several EVM chains and Umbra lives on Solana. Redacted’s home is THORChain and Rujira, and outposts are how it plans to reach other ecosystems.

The goal: outposts

Redacted’s home is Rujira and THORChain. THORChain natively settles the major chains’ real assets, and Rujira puts a full DeFi suite on top. Outposts are meant to complete the picture: Redacted infrastructure deployed directly into other ecosystems, with local reserves and local relayers, so that every chain can exchange with Redacted directly and its whole product landscape comes within private reach.

The interface is planned in stages. First a swap page so simple that it barely looks like DeFi, then the full experience with every product behind one private balance and privacy as the only mode, and finally the engine as an SDK, so wallets and frontends can offer the same private experience inside their own products. Every outpost and every integration is meant to flow value back to the base on Rujira.

These are plans, not promises. Timing and scope can change, and nothing here is an offer of any token or service.
