# How Redacted compares

Most privacy tools on public chains are either a pool you pass your coins through or a shielded wallet with a few private actions added on. Redacted is built to be the place where your DeFi life happens. You sign in with the wallet you already use, your balance holds real coins from many chains, and you trade, lend, borrow and stake on Rujira without anyone being able to connect it to your public address. With [bunker mode](https://redacted.gg/docs/using-redacted/bunker-mode.md), your account, your proofs and your signatures run on hashes from day one.

The table compares Redacted, as it works with the node network, with three well-known privacy protocols and with Houdini, a private swap service. It reflects what each one offers as of October 2026.

A few notes on the rows. Railgun brings privacy to EVM chains and supports private swaps, yield and liquidity through integrations, and it uses its own wallet with a separate recovery phrase and view-only keys. Privacy Pools runs two versions. The first focuses on private deposits and withdrawals of ETH and tokens, with a single association set provider that vets deposits and a ragequit that returns rejected deposits to their sender, and the second, live since September 2026, adds private transfers, swaps, Aave yield and viewing keys. Umbra is a private wallet on Solana with shielded transfers and swaps, and it adds viewing keys, risk screening and geo-blocking on top. Houdini offers private swaps across many chains without an account, and it routes each swap through two exchange partners and an intermediate coin. Each partner runs its own compliance checks and can hold a swap during a review and ask for identity or source-of-funds information, which is why Houdini's rows on withdrawals and identity checks are marked as partly. With Redacted you can share your history with an auditor or an exchange through a disclosure report, which arrives in an upcoming update.

The last two rows are about quantum safety, and Redacted's marks there describe bunker mode, which is there from day one next to standard mode. Railgun, Privacy Pools and Umbra all prove with Groth16 over the BN254 curve, which needs a trusted setup and rests on elliptic curves. Railgun and Umbra, and Privacy Pools in its second version, also write notes to the chain that are encrypted with elliptic-curve keys, so a future quantum computer could read them. None of them has announced a post-quantum mode.

Redacted brings the best of these approaches together in one place. You get full access to DeFi on Rujira, real coins from every major chain in one private balance and checks run by independent nodes, all from the wallet you already use, and bunker mode adds proofs and signatures built from hashes alone. New money waits about two hours, which makes it harder to link a deposit to what you do next, and your withdrawals stay open whatever happens.
